US stock exchanges fell on inflation data

The main U.S. stock indices on Thursday reacted negatively to the release of statistics on inflation in the U.S. for September, which accelerated stronger than expected. At the close, Dow Jones lost 0.51%, S&P 500 - 0.62%, Nasdaq - 0.63%. European indices were also mostly down. German DAX and French CAC 40 fell by 0.23% and 0.37% respectively, British FTSE 100 added 0.32%.

Inflation in September was lower than a month earlier - in annualized terms it amounted to 0.4% against 0.6% in August, but analysts expected less active growth - by 0.3%. The fact that consumer prices rose higher, increased the anxiety of players, who took into account the data on producer prices released on Wednesday - they also exceeded forecasts. The situation is somewhat mitigated by the minutes of the last meeting of the Federal Reserve, published on Wednesday, which showed that the regulator is cautious about further increases in the key rate, investing.com writes.
