US bourses closed mixed after the Fed rate decision

The main US indices ended Wednesday without any unified dynamics. The Fed's decision on the key rate dispelled market participants' fears about its possible increase, which arose against the background of the fact that inflation in the first quarter exceeded forecasts. However, the regulator kept the rate at the same level, reports Business Insider. Nevertheless, the tone of central bank head Jerome Powell was quite restrained.

At the end of trading, only Dow Jones showed positive dynamics, increasing by 0.23%. S&P 500 and Nasdaq fell by 0.34% and 0.33% respectively.

The Fed said it has no plans to cut interest rates until it becomes more confident in the stability of the decline in inflation. As Powell noted during his speech, while consumer prices have fallen significantly, they are still too high and there are no guarantees that the favorable trend will continue. At the same time, he called it unlikely that rates will be raised in the near term.
