US and European stock exchanges fell on a key rate hike

The main U.S. stock indices mostly declined at the end of trading after the release of news about the decision of the Federal Reserve to raise the key rate. At the close, S&P 500 and Nasdaq lost 0.02% and 0.12% respectively, Dow Jones rose by 0.23%. Similar dynamics indices demonstrated before the publication of the results of the meeting of the regulator, reports Prime.

European key indices also closed with a fall - German DAX lost 0.49%, British FTSE 100 - 0.19%, French CAC 40 - 1.35%.

At yesterday's meeting, the Fed decided to raise the rate by 25 bps. Thus, it is now at the level of 5.25 - 5.5%. The dollar index also reacted with a fall - at the end of the day it showed a decline of 0.31% to 100.785 points. Gold prices jumped 0.5% after the results were announced, surpassing $1978 per troy ounce; they subsequently declined in a correction to $1973.80.

The regulator's next meeting is scheduled for September 19 and 20.
