U.S. stock exchanges closed on the upside ahead of the release of corporate reports

The main U.S. stock indices rose on Tuesday. The Dow Jones added 1.57%, the S&P 500 gained 1.39% and the NASDAQ gained 1.56%. Investors were upbeat about the release of financial reports from Alphabet and Amazon, which took place after the close of trading. In the last quarter of 2020, Amazon's revenue exceeded $125 billion, surpassing the forecasted figures - $119.7 billion. This was helped by quarantine restrictions, which prompted customers to order more often online, as well as the pre-holiday period, during which the number of online orders has increased significantly. Alphabet also announced record results in the last quarter of last year. Even after the close of trading, shares of both companies rose 0.6% and 6%, respectively. Investor sentiment is also supported by hopes for approval by the U.S. authorities of a new package of assistance to citizens against the background of the damage, caused by coronavirus.
