U.S. Department of Energy expects weaker oil demand

The US Department of Energy revised its forecast for oil demand for the current and next years. The first figure fell by 0.6 mln bpd to 96.9 mln, the second was reduced by 0.4 mln bpd to 100.5 mln. The agency expects a decrease in demand due to the discovery of a new type of coronavirus, which creates a high level of uncertainty for the world economy. Its spread could have a negative impact on global oil demand, especially in the airline industry. The revision of the forecast was also influenced by stricter quarantine measures in various countries, restricting movement. Nevertheless, overall, the Energy Ministry is set to increase consumption levels next year. Oil prices shifted to higher levels yesterday after a 5% decline on Tuesday, with Brent and WTI grades trading above $75 and $70 at the close of trading, respectively. The lack of progress in the negotiations on Iran's nuclear program contributed to this - investors concluded that no additional supply from this country is expected in the near future.
