The Fed expectedly raised its key rate by 50 basis points

The Fed on Wednesday raised its key rate by 50 basis points to 4.25 percent to 4.5 percent per year, the highest level in 15 years. The decision met the expectations of most analysts and market participants.

The U.S. regulator has raised the rate a total of seven times this year, the last four of them by 75 basis points. The Fed said in its closing statement that it plans to keep raising the rate to get inflation back to the 2% target. Right now, the nation's price growth is more than three times that target. Analysts polled by Bloomberg believe that the maximum level of the rate will be 4.9% - this will happen next year, after which its increase will be stopped, writes RBC. In February - March 2023, experts expect two increases by 25 basis points.

The regulator also announced its intention to continue reducing the amount of debt securities on its balance sheet, adhering to the plan approved in May.
