Inflation in Europe reached a new absolute record

Inflation in the European Union in October set a new all-time record in its history, reaching 10.7% year-on-year. This was higher than analysts' expectations, who predicted it to be 10.1%. In September the index was 9.9%, and in October last year - 4.1%. The highest price increase was in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - 22%, 21.8% and 22.4%, respectively, and the most moderate - in France (7.1%), RIA "Novosti".

GDP of the EU and the euro zone in the third quarter decreased to 0.2% compared with the previous quarter, contrary to the forecast of 1%. Compared with the third trimester of 2021, it fell to 2.1%, and in the second quarter of this year it was 4.3%. The economists of Oxford Economics believe that the recession in the euro area in winter is inevitable, as stated in their official press release. By the way, even now, according to the German edition Die Welt, in Germany, about a third of catering establishments are at risk of closing on the background of a significant rise in energy costs.
