Important events of the week

Investors' attention is focused on the US Federal Reserve meeting scheduled for today and tomorrow. On Wednesday, after the announcement of its results, a press conference of Jerome Powell, the head of the central bank, is expected. Players will be waiting for his signals on the further policy on the key rate - this issue is especially urgent now amid risks of recession of the American economy and crisis of its banking system.

The most part of market participants expects the regulator to raise the key rate by 0.25 basis points - as the CME Group poll showed, this point of view is shared by more than 80% of respondents. The majority of respondents (62%) do not expect any additional increases in June.

The U.S. labor market data for April is expected on Friday. Analysts expect the unemployment rate to rise 0.1 percentage points and nonfarm payroll growth to slow compared to March's results.

The European Central Bank has scheduled a meeting and rate decision for Thursday.
