IMF expects global recession

About one-third of the countries that form the global economy are facing recession, IMF head Kristalina Georgieva said on Monday, adding that they showed a decline in the first two quarters. The fund expects global GDP to shrink by $4 billion by 2026, an amount significant - equivalent to Germany's GDP, Georgieva said.

Earlier last week, the head of the agency negatively assessed the future prospects - in her opinion, further deterioration is most likely, as uncertainty remains high due to the effects of the Ukrainian crisis and the pandemic. She also admitted the emergence of new shocks to the economy. In addition, Georgieva reported the fund's intention to lower its global GDP growth forecast for next year. It will be officially published this week.

Players are also waiting for a number of important macroeconomic data - publication of Fed meeting minutes on Wednesday and U.S. inflation statistics on Thursday.
