Gold declines amid dollar strength

Gold prices yesterday continued the negative dynamics of Monday, which was facilitated by the strengthening of the U.S. dollar. At the end of the day on the Comex exchange they lost about 0.6%, falling to $1958 per troy ounce.

Strengthening of the dollar on Tuesday contributed to the release of pessimistic statistics on the Chinese economy. According to the country's customs data, the volume of exports in July decreased significantly - by 14.5% in annual terms, which was worse than the forecasted value of 12.5%. Much lower than expected was the volume of imports - it fell by 12.4%, while analysts expected it to fall by 5%. This cooled the activity of investors, prompting them to switch to the dollar and refrain from risky assets - the world stock exchanges saw a decline, copper and oil prices also fell.

According to Oanda analyst Edward Moya, despite the growth of the dollar, gold is not cheaper as actively as other commodities. If the economic situation in the world worsens, the demand for it will increase, he predicts. The words of the expert reports the agency "Prime".
