Gas in Europe may rise to $2000 – expert

The cost of gas in Europe jumped by about 10% on Monday, reaching $1890 per 1000m³. This was facilitated by the fact that the second Siemens turbine was suspended at the Nord Stream pipeline, in addition to the one that was delayed in Canada due to Western sanctions. As a consequence, the volume of gas supplied through the pipeline will drop to 33 million cubic meters, Gazprom announced yesterday.

Last summer, there were record gas prices in Europe at the time, but they were several times lower than now, according to the news agency Prime. But this is not the limit - according to Alexei Grivach, deputy head of the National Energy Security Fund, with further supply difficulties in the region prices could exceed $2,000 per 1000m³. This threshold has already been passed in March - the quotes have already jumped to nearly $4,000. In addition, the shortage of gas and its high cost can reduce the rate of gas injection into local storage - according to RIA Novosti, during the 10 days of maintenance of the Nord Stream pipeline in July they have already fallen by 25%.
