European Commission concerned about the precarious situation of businesses and citizens of Europe due to high electricity prices

Soaring electricity prices are undermining the sustainability of European businesses and households, European Commission Chairwoman Ursula von der Leyen said during her speech in Denmark. She lamented that quotations are setting ever-higher records, Prime news agency reported. Their growth was largely spurred by unprecedented Western sanctions against Russia.

According to a recent statement by EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell in an interview with Kronen Zeitung, Europe should prepare for serious problems in the near future because of the consequences of the anti-Russian sanctions imposed on it. Later, at a meeting in Prague, the politician added that a number of European countries would like to revise the restrictions, but he does not expect foreign ministers to agree to this, reports the Internet portal Radio Sputnik.

Meanwhile, more and more countries in Europe fear mass riots due to the shortage and high cost of electricity - such reports have recently appeared in Switzerland.
