Copper prices under pressure amid risks of global recession

Copper is getting cheaper because of the threat of a recession, which would reduce global demand. Last night the drop in prices on the London Metal Exchange reached about 4.9%, after which there was an immediate correction - the quotations rose to $7585.00, reducing the decline to 1.08%. On Tuesday, they were at their lowest level in more than a year and a half. The possibility of a global recession is weighing on metals, which posted their weakest performance in the second quarter since 2008. In March, when the world community did not think about such a scenario, prices jumped - the threat of deficit due to the Ukrainian conflict was in the foreground. Now the situation has changed, and an additional negative factor was the epidemiological situation in China, where mass testing for coronavirus is being conducted again. Market participants are worried about the prospects of economic recovery in this country, which is a major importer of copper.
