U.S. trade deficit hits nearly $1 trillion

The trade deficit of the United States at the end of 2022 set a historical record, reaching $ 948.1 billion, according to the country's Commerce Department. For the year it increased by 12.2%, reports RBC referring to the newspaper The Wall Street Journal.

Over the past three years, the U.S. trade deficit has shown steady growth. According to Reuters statistics, it increased by almost $100 billion last year and by about $300 billion in 2021. A year earlier it was $859.1 billion and in 2020 it was $676.7 billion.

The country's trade deficit rose 10.5 percent over December. Imports of goods and automobiles increased amid stronger demand, adding 1.3% compared to November, while exports, by contrast, declined by 0.9%, the publication writes.

Record negative trade balance has reached and in France - according to the calculations of the Ministry of Commerce of the country, in 2022, it grew by € 79.3 billion compared with the previous year, amounting to € 164 billion.
